NEW DELHI/KOLKATA: A team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Wednesday reached West Bengal’s Haldia to identify one of the persons accused in the case of Saturday’s violent clashes that allegedly erupted after stone-pelting on Hanuman Jayanti Shobha Yatra.

A senior police official wishing not to be named told The New Indian that a team of the Crime Branch had gone to Gopal Chawk village in Haldia, Purba Medinipur district for identification of accused Dilshad.

“However, we were unable to identify the Dilshad, as local villagers said that his father had left the village many years ago,” the official said.

The Crime Branch had taken over the investigation of the Jahangirpuri violence on Sunday, a day after the clashes that caused injuries to nine people including at least two policemen.

The Delhi Police have so far arrested 25 people and also apprehended two juveniles in connection with its probe.
