NEW DLEHI: In a significant move aimed at strengthening road connectivity and boosting economic growth, nine National Highway projects spanning 225 km were inaugurated and had their foundation stones laid in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The projects, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹2,367 crore, are expected to transform transportation and commerce in the region.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, was the chief guest at the event, which was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, along with several state ministers and senior officials.
Key Projects and Features
Among the notable projects are:
- A 1.5 km-long bridge over the Jamni River, improving connectivity for local communities.
- Widening of the Bamitha-Khajuraho road, a major route to one of the state’s key tourist destinations.
- Several road upgradation works designed to enhance safety, reduce travel time, and support industrial transport, particularly in the coal-rich areas of Katni.
Impact on Connectivity and Economy
Officials highlighted that the completion of these highways will significantly improve travel efficiency, boost tourism, and facilitate industrial and commercial transport. Enhanced road access to destinations like Khajuraho is expected to increase tourist inflow, while better transport routes for the coal sector in Katni will aid economic activities.
Minister Gadkari’s Remarks
Addressing the gathering, Nitin Gadkari emphasized the transformative power of robust infrastructure.
