International Migration Review Forum: MoS V Muraleedharan To Represent India

 

NEW DELHI: Union minister of state for external affairs and parliamentary affairs V Muraleedharan is slated to deliver an official statement at the Plenary Session of the first International Migration Review Forum.

Muraleedharan will travel to the US along with a contingent from India on Wednesday for the first International Migration Review Forum. It is being held under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly in New York from May 17 to 20, the Ministry of External Affairs stated.

The International Migration Review Forum is set up as an intergovernmental global platform to discuss and share progress on the implementation of all aspects pertaining to migration and its intersection with Sustainable Development Goals.

The forum will adopt a Progress Declaration. According to the MEA, the forum will have four interactive multi-stakeholder round tables, a policy dialogue, and a plenary.

While in New York, Muraleedharan is expected to meet with Abdulla Shahid, President of the General Assembly and Antonio Vitorino, Director General, International Organisation for Migration.

During his state visit to the US, Muraleedharan will participate in a high-level Ministerial Meeting on ‘Global Food Security – Call to Action’ and deliver a statement at the UNSC Open Debate on ‘Maintenance of international peace and security: Conflict and food security’.

During his stay in the US, Muraleedharan will also meet a wide cross-section of the Indian diaspora in New York, Los Angeles and Houston, including those working in areas of community welfare, business, health, culture and education.
