India, UK hold strategic dialogue; Strengthen security linkages

NEW DELHI: UK National Security Adviser Sir Tim Barrow met with Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on July 7 in New Delhi for the India-UK Strategic Dialogue.

The two NSAs discussed a wide range of issues, including security, counter-terrorism, and technology collaboration. They also met with senior officials from both countries to discuss ways to enhance cooperation on these issues.

In a joint statement, the two NSAs said that they reaffirmed their close strategic partnership and agreed to accord maximum priority to further enhance the security linkages. They also agreed to enhance cooperation to address violent extremism and radicalism.

The Indian side raised the issue of the extremist elements in the UK threatening individual officers of the Indian High Commission and urged the UK Government to take strong public action against these elements such as deportation or legal prosecution.

Both sides agreed to work closely on counter-terrorism, counter-terror financing, use of the internet for terrorism purposes, illicit drug trafficking and counter-radicalisation. They also agreed to deepen mutually beneficial collaboration in critical and emerging technologies.

The two NSAs said that they were committed to working together to address common challenges and to build a more secure and prosperous future for both countries.

The India-UK Strategic Dialogue is an annual meeting between the two countries National Security Advisers. The dialogue was established in 2014 to provide a forum for the two countries to discuss their shared interests and to work together to address common challenges.

The dialogue covers a wide range of issues, including security, defence, trade, and technology. The two countries have also agreed to work together on issues of global importance, such as climate change and counter-terrorism.

The India-UK Strategic Dialogue is an important part of the close and growing relationship between the two countries. The dialogue helps to build trust and understanding between the two countries, and it paves the way for further cooperation in the future.
