NEW DELHI: In a significant escalation of hostilities, India conducted a targeted military operation, “Operation Sindoor,” on the night of May 7, in response to Pakistan’s attempted attacks on multiple Indian military locations using drones and missiles.

“It has been reliably learnt that an Air Defence system at Lahore has been neutralised,” states the official report.

The Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralized these threats, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.

Pakistani Aggression and Indian Countermeasures

Pakistan initiated the escalation by attempting to engage a number of military targets in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles.

These attacks were effectively neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris recovered from these locations confirmed the Pakistani involvement.

In response, early on May 8, 2025, India launched a targeted operation against Pakistani air defence radars and systems, including the neutralization of an air defence system in Lahore.

This response was calibrated to match the intensity and domain of the Pakistani attacks, maintaining a focused and measured approach.

Cross-Border Shelling and Civilian Casualties

Pakistan also intensified its cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, using mortars and heavy artillery in areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors.

This unprovoked firing resulted in the loss of 16 innocent lives, including three women and five children. In response, India was compelled to act to halt the mortar and artillery fire from Pakistan.

Commitment to Non-Escalation

The Indian Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to non-escalation, provided it is respected by the Pakistani military.

India has consistently emphasized that any attack on military targets within its territory will invite a suitable response, as stated during the press briefing on Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. The Indian government remains focused on ensuring the safety and security of its citizens while striving for peace and stability in the region.
