In Rae Bareli, Cong Needs Proper Planning, If It Wants To Take On BJP, SP

RAE BARELI: As Congress MLA from Rae Bareli Aditi Singh resigned from her membership today, political analysts watching the state elections sounded their concern on the way Congress appears to be handling the party so close to the elections.

At this rate, the grand old party would not be able to win a single seat in this district and it needs a proper planning to revive itself, many opined.

Speaking to The New Indian, Vijay Rastogi, who keeps a close eye on polls in Rae Bareli and has also contested the Nagar Palika elections thrice said, “Congress is looking very weak in Rae Bareli and I do not see the party winning any assembly seat here.” Citing various reasons, he said: “The party focuses on Lok Sabha elections while it doesn’t give much prominence to assembly elections because in Lok Sabha elections, it takes help from Samajwadi Party. It is visible. Party has no more voter base in Rae Bareli in assembly elections,” he said.

On Aditi Singh resigning from Congress and Harchandpur MLA Rakesh Singh turning rebel, he said, “Both the MLAs are going to fight from the BJP. Aditi Singh is already in BJP now and even Congress MLC has joined the BJP. Currently they do not have any seat in Rae Bareli.”

He further said that on all the six assembly seats the “fight will be between Samajwadi Party and the BJP”.

Only if Congress gets the support of Samajwadi Party can it give a tough fight to the BJP. If there is no pact between Congress and the Samajwadi Party. And if all three parties fight parallel, then BJP will get an upper hand as it already has three MLAs here.

Aditi Singh had joined the BJP last year. She had been critical of Uttar Pradesh Congress incharge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on several occasions. To a question, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi announcement to field 40 per cent women candidates and several other promises to people, he said, “Till the time the Congress does not change its strategy, it will not be able to revive itself.”

He said that they (Congress) are not getting proper report from the ground. “Congress has to revive its entire structure and needs a proper planning. Priyanka Gandhi has really worked hard but the results are not visible on the ground,” Rastogi added.
