NEW DELHI: Addressing the 56th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in New Delhi, Union Minister for IB, Railways, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that IIMC would be transformed into a world-class media university. The statement underscores the government’s commitment to advancing media education in the country.
“The next version of IIMC will also include a world-class curriculum and stronger collaborations with the media industry to meet the needs of a rapidly changing communication landscape,” Vaishnaw stated.

The Minister emphasized the ever-evolving nature of the media industry and the necessity of adaptability. He remarked, “The entire world of media is transforming, and change is constant. We must absorb and adapt to these changes to stay ahead.”
Encouraging Students for the Future
During his address, Vaishnaw urged graduates to continue their journey with dedication and perseverance. Recognizing the challenges they may face, he advised students to maintain the same energy and enthusiasm that brought them to this significant milestone.
“Wherever you work, always remember – nation first, always first. Your work should aim to help the country, and other things will follow,” the Union Minister said.
IIMC’s Commitment to Excellence
Director General of IIMC, Dr. Anupama Bhatnagar, reiterated the institute’s dedication to keeping pace with modern advancements in media education.
“The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has continuously updated its curriculum to keep pace with modern advancements and evolving requirements,” she stated.
Highlighting efforts to provide students with industry exposure, she mentioned that the Placement Cell successfully organized an Industry Connect Event last December, enabling students to learn from esteemed industry leaders across various media verticals.
Dr. Bhatnagar further stated that IIMC also plays a vital role in training officers of the Indian Information Service. Additionally, recognizing the evolving security sector’s needs, the institution has conducted specialized mass communication courses for the Armed Forces, State Police Departments, Coast Guard, Assam Rifles, and CISF. It has also organized training programs for state information officers and public relations professionals.

Additional Director General, IIMC, Dr. Nimish Rustagi, along with faculty and staff, were also present at the convocation ceremony.
The convocation took place yesterday at Mahatma Gandhi Manch, IIMC, New Delhi, celebrating the achievements of students from the 2023-24 batch. Postgraduate Diploma certificates were awarded to students from IIMC’s main campus in New Delhi, as well as its five regional campuses in Dhenkanal, Aizawl, Amravati, Kottayam, and Jammu. Furthermore, 36 outstanding students were honored with medals and cash awards for their academic excellence.
The event brought together distinguished faculty members and guests, highlighting IIMC’s unwavering commitment to fostering excellence in media and communication education.
