NEW DELHI: In an exclusive conversation with The New Indian‘s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, Aamir Khan opened up about his daughter Ira Khan’s journey with mental health and her deeply personal decision to launch a non-profit organization — Agatsu Foundation — aimed at creating awareness and offering support for those battling mental health issues.

“My daughter Ira is a very sensitive person,” Aamir shared. “She’s been open about her struggles with depression. She went through a very tough time, but she faced it bravely — and that’s something I really admire about her.”

Aamir spoke with heartfelt pride about Ira’s decision to channel her personal experience into something larger. “She started Agatsu, a non-profit that works in the field of mental health. She even runs a community center where people can come, talk, and find support. She has dedicated her life to helping others deal with their mental well-being.”

The actor, known for supporting social causes through his films and initiatives, said he has always stood by his daughter’s vision. “From the beginning, I was with her. I remember spending a lot of time with her when she was setting it all up. Even now, I’m part of the committee that supports Agatsu. I try to help in every way I can. It’s her journey, but as a father, I am always there when she needs me.”

Aamir also reflected on the values that connect all three of his children — Ira, Junaid, and Azad. “All my kids are extremely sensitive and well-behaved. They care deeply about others, and that makes me feel proud as a parent.”

For Aamir, his children’s empathy and emotional strength are the real achievements. “In today’s world, sensitivity is often overlooked. But my kids have it in abundance. And Ira, through Agatsu, is trying to bring that quality to society.”
