How Alia Bhatt Became Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Saawariya’: EXCLUSIVE Details Inside

MUMBAI: Bollywood actors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt tied the knot on Thursday in the presence of their families and close friends. Alia shunned the conventional red bridal trousseau and looked resplendent in an ivory saree with gold embroidery designed by Sabyasachi. Ranbir Kapoor wore a matching colour ‘sherwani’ with pastel ‘safaa’ with bejewelled ‘kilanji’.

The wedding was held at Ranbir’s house ‘Vastu’. After the wedding, they both came out and posed for a posse of photographers who were present outside Ranbir’s house.

Among those who attended the wedding from Ranbir’s side were his mother Neetu Kapoor, sister Ridhima Kapoor and her family, cousins Kareena Kapoor Khan, Karisma Kapoor, as well as Aadar and Armaan Jain along with their mother Rima Jain, and uncle Randhir Kapoor.

From Alia’s side, parents Mahesh Bhatt, Soni Razdan and sisters Pooja Bhatt and Shaheen were present. Close industry friends such as Ayan Mukerji, director Karan Johar, industrialist Akash Ambani and wife Shlok Ambani were also in attendance.

The ceremony was marked with a number of joyful and evocative moments. During the ‘varmala’ ritual, Ranbir’s friends picked him up and he put the ‘varmala’ on Alia. During Alia’s turn, Ranbir thoughtfully knelt down so that the bride can put the ‘varmala’ with ease. Ranbir’s gesture elicited a lot of cheers and claps. AFter the ‘varmala’.

Reportedly, the couple took only 4 ‘pheras’ instead of the usual 7. The ‘pandit’, who presided over the rituals of the wedding ceremony, has been their family ‘pandit’ for a long time.

Ranbir and Alia also danced and grooved on Shah Rukh Khan’s song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ from ‘Dil Se’ while their families were rooting for them.

Alia’s mentor Karan Johar, who had launched her in Bollywood with ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012, got emotional on seeing Alia dressed as a bride. Later, both of them danced to the ‘Radha’ song from their movie.

“It’s days like this that we live where there is the most beautiful blend of family, love and absolute emotion. I am overwhelmed and so full of love in my heart. My darling Alia, this is such a beautiful life step and my love and blessings go with you everywhere. Ranbir! I love you now and forever! You are now my son in law. Badhai Ho and here’s to decades of ख़ुशियाँ,” he wrote on Instagram.

The couple are expected to throw a grand, lavish reception in a couple of weeks which will be attended by a host of industry bigwigs.

A source close to the family told The New Indian that an OTT platform will soon broadcast the entire wedding footage. “A prominent OTT platform has bought the telecast rights of their wedding at an astronomical price. This is one of the reasons why the ceremony was organised behind closed doors and not many videos and photos were leaked to the media,” he said.

Ranbir and Alia had started dating each other during the shooting of their upcoming movie ‘Brahmastra’ which is slated to release in September 2022. The couple made their relationship public in 2018.
