Hockey India senior women C'ship: dominant wins mark day 1

NEW DELHI: The Hockey India Senior Women C’ship began with thrilling matches at the Tau Devi Lal Hockey Stadium. Teams in Division B and C fought for crucial wins in the new format that decides promotion.

 

Strong Start in Division B

Hockey Uttarakhand, Delhi Hockey, and Chhattisgarh Hockey secured victories, starting their campaigns on a high note.

 

In Pool A, Hockey Uttarakhand defeated the Hockey Association of Bihar 3-0. Beena Pandey (9’, 58’) scored twice, while Vartika Rawat converted a penalty corner.

Delhi Hockey clinched a 4-1 win over Hockey Chandigarh in Pool B. After a goalless first half, Captain Roobi (32’, 38’), Priyanka (35’), and Divya (51’) netted crucial goals. Alka (36’) scored for Chandigarh.

 

Chhattisgarh Hockey dominated Hockey Himachal 5-1. Anisha Sahu (20’, 24’) struck twice, while Anita Khusro (5’), Sampada Nirmalkar (33’), and Sabbi Naz Ansari (57’) added to the tally. Bhumika Chauhan (43’) scored Himachal’s only goal.

 

Division C: Kerala & Andhra Pradesh Shine

Kerala Hockey crushed Hockey Gujarat 10-0 in Pool A. Kavita (17’, 21’, 39’, 43’, 44’, 47’) scored six goals, earning the Player of the Match title. Abhitha As (14’), Swetha S (15’), Vipinya R (34’), and Ashmi M (59’) completed the rout.

 

Hockey Andhra Pradesh secured a dominant 9-0 victory over Hockey Arunachal. Lotla Mary (15’, 23’, 28’, 31’, 50’) netted five goals. Patan Mujiya Begum (13’), Garlanka Varahalamma (45’), and Captain Bhavani Madugula (48’) also scored.

 

Later, Le Puducherry Hockey was set to face Hockey Jammu and Kashmir in Pool B.
