BJP’s Harish Khurana, is leading by 12754 votes against AAP’s incumbent MLA Shivcharan Goel

NEW DELHI: Harish Khurana, BJP’s candidate from Moti Nagar and son of former Delhi CM Madan Lal Khurana, won by the margin of 11657 votes against AAP’s incumbent MLA Shivcharan Goel after final round of counting.

This marks Harish Khurana’s electoral debut from a seat his father won twice, in 1993 and 2003. A former Delhi BJP spokesperson, he currently serves as the party’s state secretary.

The BJP last secured Moti Nagar in 2013, when Subhash Sachdeva defeated AAP’s Kuldeep Singh Channa. Since 2015, AAP’s Goel has held the seat, winning by over 14,000 votes in 2020.

Notably, sons of three former Delhi CMs are in the electoral race—Harish Khurana, Sandeep Dikshit (son of Sheila Dikshit), and Parvesh Verma (son of Sahib Singh Verma).

Sandeep and Parvesh are contesting from the New Delhi seat against ex-CM Arvind Kejriwal.

The BJP has been out of power in Delhi since 1998. The party had won 49 out of 70 seats in 1993 under Madan Lal Khurana’s leadership, who later served as a Union minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet.
