NEW DELHI: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of farmers’ unions, on Saturday decided to postpone the tractor rally to Parliament, which was scheduled to take place on November 29.

Addressing the media after the crucial meeting of the farmers’ body here, Samyukta Kisan Morcha leader Darshan Pal said, “We have decided to put tractor march to Parliament on November 29 on hold.”

He said that meeting on future course of action will be taken on December 4.

The farmers also said that the protest will go on until the government holds talks with the government over the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The announcement by the farmers comes two days ahead of Parliament’s Winter Session on November 29.

The government has listed the repealing of the three farm laws on Monday, first day of the Winter Session of the Parliament.

The tractor march to Parliament was also scheduled on the first day of Parliament as the farmers asserted soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on November 19 that the protest is not being withdrawn.

The meeting of the farmers’ union Samyukta Kisan Morcha which has been spearheading the year-long protest comes as agriculture minister Narendra Sing Tomar on Saturday appealed to farmers to return home as their demands have been met.

The farmers also said that ongoing protest will continue until the government holds talks with the farmers over MSP, death of farmers during the protest and the Lakhimpur incident in which protesting farmers were allegedly mowed down by the son of Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra Teni’s car.

Hundreds of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh have been protesting at three borders of Delhi since November 26 last year demanding the repealing of three farm laws and ensuring MSP of their produce.

Over 700 farmers have allegedly lost their lives during the yearlong protest.
