EXCLUSIVE| No loss in West Bengal for BJP in Assembly elections: BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya

NEW DELHI: BJP has fielded its national general secretary and state politics veteran Kailash Vijayvargiya in Madhya Pradesh elections. In an exclusive interview with The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, the senior leader expressed his satisfaction with BJP’s performance in West Bengal Assembly election, where Vijayvargiya had been the party in-charge.

Although the party suffered a loss in the state’s elections, with TMC winning and forming a government, Kailash shared that his party has gained a significant hold in the state. The leader, who enjoys close proximity with of Home Minister Amit Shah, was happy that BJP could make in-roads in a state mostly dominated by TMC and left parties.

Here are the excerpts from the interview of Kailash Vijayvargiya with our Executive Editor Rohan Dua.

Rohan: If I look back at your roles and responsibilities, you have always been known as someone who enjoyed close proximity with someone like Amit Shah ji. When he was the president, he gave you a lot of responsibilities and after that as well. West Bengal was one of the crucial parts of your career. Definitely you made inroads but there were losses as well that brought sort of embarrassment. How do you see that since there were losses but an inroad was made as well?

Kailash: There was no loss. We had 2 seats of Lok Sabha in West Bengal, we took it to 18 seats. We had 3 Assembly seats and we took it to 77. Bhartiya Janata Party has gained a lot in West Bengal and I think if the party gains, we have also gained a lot. We never think about individual losses, we always think about the gain of the party.

Rohan Dua: What did you learn from the elections in West Bengal?

Kailash Vijayvargiya: Whatever the situation may be, one should keep walking towards their goal. People and god will always be with you.
