ED Grills Partha’s Son-In-Law In Bengal Teachers Recruitment Scam

Former West Bengal minister and TMC strongman Partha Chatterjee

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) grilled Kalyanmoy Bhattacharya, the son-in-law of suspended Trinamool Congress minister Partha Chatterjee, in connection with the probe into SSC recruitment scam.

The ED started questioning Kalyanmoy on Monday morning and it lasted till late at night.

Kalyanmoy, who lives in New York, reached Kolkata on Saturday immediately after receiving the second summon from the ED.

In the supplementary chargesheet, the ED stated that Partha formed a trust with his family members in the name of his late wife Babli Chatterjee.

Along with it, he has also built a private school at Pingla in West Midnapur at a cost of Rs 15 crore. Interestingly, Kalyanmoy is the chairman of this school.

Besides, a close relative of Kalyanmoy is the secretary of the school’s management committee.

The ED has found that Partha’s daughter and his son-in-law owned various movable and immovable properties. The ED is looking into the source of money that was used to buy these properties.

After Partha’s arrest on July 23, his daughter Sohini Chattopadhyay and Kalyanmoy were repeatedly summoned by ED through email at the CGO complex in Salt Lake.

However, the daughter and son-in-law failed to appear before the central investigative agency as they were staying abroad.

Kalyanmoy will be summoned again by the ED and he has been asked not to leave the country for the time being.

The special court of Alipore ordered judicial custody of Subiresh Bhattacharya, the North Bengal University vice-chancellor (NBU VC), for the next 10 days on Monday.

Subiresh was in Central Bureau of Investigation’s custody at Nizam Palace for the past seven days. However, his lawyer complained that in these last seven days, he was not called even once for interrogation. The NBU VC was allegedly directly involved in the scam as he manipulated the scores of the candidates.
