DOHA (QATAR): Delhi Public School (DPS) Modern Indian School, Qatar, continued its 25th anniversary celebrations on Saturday, with a landmark edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS, held at the auditorium in Al Wakrah.
The event, themed “Flip The Narrative”, brought together distinguished speakers, educators and students of the expat community for an evening of thought-provoking dialogue, celebrating innovation, leadership and transformative ideas.
As part of its ongoing silver jubilee celebrations, the 11th edition of TEDxYouth@DPSMIS showcased a dynamic lineup of speakers who shared powerful perspectives on resilience, leadership, social change and personal growth.
Among the keynote speakers was Rohan Dua, Executive Editor of The New Indian, who delivered an impactful address emphasizing the evolving role of media in shaping narratives and empowering youth to take charge of stories that define their generation.
The senior journalist was among a cohort of distinguished speakers from various parts of the Middle East, Asia and neighbouring regions.
The event commenced saw one Mubarrat Wassey setting the tone for an evening dedicated to redefining perspectives. Wassey opened the session with an inspiring speech, followed by addresses from Purba Solomon and Dua, each highlighting the importance of challenging traditional viewpoints and embracing progressive thinking.
Adding to the diversity of voices, Major Yasser Khan, Salih Mansoor and DPS’s own student Sharvi Patwardhan took the stage to discuss leadership, perseverance and the power of community-driven change. Their speeches resonated strongly with the audience, particularly students eager to explore global ideas through a local lens.
A special focus of the evening was the address by school’s vice president George Thomas and the principal Asna Nafees, both of which reflected on DPS Qatar’s remarkable 25-year journey that includes their own long distinguised career from Kerala and Andhra Pradesh respectively.
The two highlighted the institution’s commitment toward holistic education, academic excellence and nurturing future leaders who are socially responsible and globally aware.
The program also featured a vibrant break and band performance, adding youthful energy to the formal proceedings and highlighting the school’s emphasis on artistic expression alongside academic growth. The closing ceremony concluded the celebration on an inspiring note, reinforcing the message of rewriting narratives and embracing new visions for the future.
Speaking on the occasion, Dua underlined the significance of youth-led platforms like TEDx in empowering the next generation.
He stressed that storytelling, authenticity and courage are essential in today’s digital era, especially for those aspiring to make meaningful change through media and communication.
