New Delhi: The Vigilance Unit of Delhi Police arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sushil Sharma of Govindpuri Police Station and a tea vendor for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.

According to the police press release, the ASI was accused of demanding money to delete names from a criminal investigation.

The complainant, a daily-wager, claimed he had already paid ₹5,000 and was pressured for another ₹5,000. A trap was laid, and the money was handed to the tea vendor, who later passed it to ASI Sharma inside the police station, leading to their arrest.

However, new details suggest the case may be weak. Sources reveal that ASI Sharma did not directly demand money. The complainants met him but left without any transaction. Later, they gave cash to a woman tea vendor acquainted with the ASI, who then handed it to him.

Source claimed that there was no recording of any demand by the ASI, nor are there independent witnesses supporting the bribery claim.

ASI Sharma, a 35-year veteran posted in Govindpuri for two years, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Further investigation is underway.
