New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired the 56th meeting of the IIT Council at IIT Delhi, unveiling a comprehensive 25-year roadmap aimed at transforming Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) into inclusive, research-driven, and globally competitive institutions.

This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Samriddh, Viksit, and Atmanirbhar Bharat’ by 2047

The roadmap emphasizes IITs’ role as catalysts for national development, focusing on fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological self-reliance.

Minister Pradhan highlighted the importance of IITs producing job creators rather than job seekers, addressing real-world challenges through translational research in critical technologies.

A key aspect of the plan is enhancing inclusivity by introducing regional languages alongside English as mediums of instruction, ensuring broader access to quality education.

The IITs are also encouraged to strengthen their research ecosystems, promote multidisciplinary collaborations, and deepen industry partnerships to meet the evolving needs of the 21st century.

Minister Pradhan referred to IITs as the “crowning jewels of India’s higher education system,” emphasizing their central role in achieving the nation’s long-term strategic goals.

He expressed confidence that IITs will lead from the front in shaping a Samriddh Bharat by 2047, contributing significantly to India’s civilizational resurgence and global leadership.
