With the temperature of the National Capital plummeting to 15.8 degrees Celsius, May 4 has been observed as the third coldest morning in May since 1901.

The weather department has come up with data that shows May 2, 1969, recorded the coldest May at 15.1 degrees Celsius. On May 2, 1982, the temperature was 15.2 degrees Celsius.

After 41 straight years, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded 15.8 degrees Celsius on May 4.

Following incessant rain on Wednesday and a hailstorm in the national capital, a layer of fog was visible in several areas in the early morning hours today (May 4).

The city’s minimum and maximum temperatures are settled at 20.2 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius, respectively.

On being asked about the fog, an IMD stated that calm winds, high moisture content in the air and a significant difference in temperature between the daytime and nighttime help create conditions that are favourable for the formation of fog.

Humidity levels ranged between 80 per cent and 100 per cent in Delhi.

The cumulative rainfall observed in Delhi is light to moderate, according to the IMD.

Importantly, the weather department states that a fresh spell of light to moderate rainfall is likely over northwest India on May 6 and 7.

Delhi’s primary weather station, Safdarjung Observatory, records 30 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, ending at 8.30 am.
