NEW DELHI: In a significant blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) just days before the Delhi Assembly elections, seven of its MLAs have resigned from the party. The resignations come as a major setback for AAP, which is gearing up for the polls scheduled for February 5, 2025. The MLAs who stepped down include Naresh Yadav from Mehrauli, Rajesh Rishi from Janakpuri, Bhavna Gaur from Palam, BS Joon from Bijwasan, Pawan Sharma from Adarsh Nagar, Madan Lal from Kasturba Nagar, and Rohit Mehraulia from Trilokpuri.

The resignations were reportedly driven by discontent over ticket distribution, with the MLAs expressing frustration over being denied tickets for the upcoming elections. Naresh Yadav, the first to resign, accused the party of corruption, a sentiment echoed by the other MLAs who followed suit. In their resignation letters addressed to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, the MLAs cited internal corruption and a lack of trust in the party leadership as their reasons for leaving.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva commented on the situation, stating that the AAP is beginning to crumble. He emphasized that the issue is not just about MLAs leaving the party but about the growing disillusionment among its members. Sachdeva claimed that people who once trusted Kejriwal now feel betrayed, as the party has failed to live up to its initial promises.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav seized the opportunity to criticize AAP, stating that the resignations expose the internal strife and corruption within the party. Yadav asserted that the MLAs have directly blamed Kejriwal for the widespread corruption within AAP, signaling a potential decline in the party’s credibility ahead of the elections.

As the political landscape in Delhi heats up, the resignations of these seven MLAs could have a significant impact on AAP’s performance in the upcoming elections, with opposition parties capitalizing on the internal turmoil to challenge Kejriwal’s leadership.
