Dalai Lama To Begin Offline Discourses After Two Year Hiatus

DHARAMSALA: Tibetan religious leader the Dalai Lama will begin offline discourses for followers for the first time in two years from March 18. The Dalai Lama had taken a hiatus from offline discourses since the onset of the pandemic, limiting his appearances and meetings.

The Dalai Lama Temple Administration has stated that followers can avail of his discourses at the Buddhist temple in Mcleodganj from 8 am on March 18. Giving details, the Dalai Lama’s personal secretary Senton Samdup said that the sessions will be conducted by the Dalai Lama himself. These discourses are open to all followers who are requested to reach the temple before 8 am. The administration has also put this information on the website of the religious leader.

Offline teaching by the Dalai Lama was last held in December 2019. He has stepped outdoors only once to get his vaccine at the zonal hospital. The second dose was administered at home. The Dalai Lama also met for the first time with the Tibetan government-in-exile Prime Minister Pempa Tsering and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at his McLeodganj residence after the second wave slowed down. In fact, they were the only people he met in two years since the pandemic. He will begin his offline discourses now that the third wave is more or less a thing of the past. Although the Dalai Lama did not leave Dharamshala in two years, he remained connected with people around the world through online teaching.

Sampdup added that it will be mandatory for all followers to wear masks while attending the discourses.
