NEW DELHI: Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for second time in the National Herald money laundering case on Tuesday.

On July 21, she was questioned for more than 2.5 hours by the ED. Her daughter and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was present at the ED office during the questioning.

The Congress chief, who was admitted to a Delhi hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 last month, was given nebulizer twice to stabilize her breathing during the questioning.

Congress is holding satyagrah across the country against the Central government for “harassment” of the Gandhi family.

In Delhi, Rahul Gandhi and several Congress MPs were detained when they were marching towards Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Ajay Maken said that the government did not allow the party to hold a satyagrah at Rajghat in Delhi today, calling it “sad”.

He said Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge had spoken to the Delhi police commissioner and other senior officials for the permission, but to no avail.

Maken said that the ruling BJP had staged a protest at Rajghat on June 5. 2015.

“If satyagrah cannot be held at Rajghat, then it seems democracy has been murdered,” he said.

The Congress leader also said that the money laundering case in which the Gandhis are being questioned was ended by the ED in 2016 . “Now the same case has been brought again so that we cannot raise the issues of unemployment, farmers, youths and others. This is political pressure politics,” he added.
