Summary

Reflecting on his decision to leave the Congress, Lovely expressed his disappointment with the Grand Old Party. “It is unfortunate, and one of the reasons I left Congress was that Rahul Gandhi, when he goes abroad, tells Sikhs that if you wear a turban, you will not remain safe.”

Lovely added,,” Whereas the Prime Minister Modi, makes arrangements so that Sikhs wearing turbans can even visit Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan for darshan.”

Lovely also heaped praises on Modi’s initiatives for the Sikh community remarking, “He declared Bal Diwas in honor of the Sahibzaade’s sacrifice. I do not usually engage in Sikh politics, but in my political career, I have never seen a leader especially a Prime Minister who understands and rewards Sikh issues and sentiments to such an extent.”

Discussing the shifting political landscape in Delhi, Lovely pointed out how the Congress has lost its Sikh leadership.

“In Delhi, all the Sikh MLAs and MPs have not remained with Congress everyone has left the party.”

“Back then, we used to be five Sikh MLAs in Congress. I was a minister, Talvinder Singh Malwa was also an MLA. We both are now in BJP. Parlad Singh Sawhney and Surinder Pal Singh Bittoo, who were Congress MLAs, are now in AAP. Who is left with Congress? No one.”
