New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art 66/11 KV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) in Mangla Puri, marking a major leap in Delhi’s power infrastructure. The new substation, built by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), will enhance electricity reliability for over 25,000 households (approx. 1.5 lakh residents) in the Palam area while saving 35% land compared to conventional substations.

Key Features & Benefits:

– Space-Efficient & Automated: The GIS technology reduces land use by 35% (built on 1,170 sqm) and enables remote operation from BRPL’s central control room.
– 63 MVA Capacity Added: Improves voltage stability and reduces outages in South-West Delhi.
– ₹100 Crore for Underground Cabling. To enhance safety and city aesthetics, overhead wires will be shifted underground in phased manner.
– Green Energy Push: Part of Delhi’s mission to become India’s “Green Energy Capital” with smart grids and solar integration.

CM’s Vision: 24×7 Affordable Power:

CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the government’s commitment to uninterrupted, affordable electricity and criticized previous administrations for “2 lakh+ prolonged outages” before her tenure. She reaffirmed that free electricity and water schemes would continue, alongside new welfare initiatives.

Political Undertone:

The CM took a swipe at opposition leaders, accusing them of “false narratives” and contrasting her government’s “politics of construction” with past “politics of blame.”

This inauguration aligns with Delhi’s broader push for sustainable, tech-driven power solutions, setting a benchmark for urban energy infrastructure in India.
