CBI Books 2 In Lakshadweep For Causing Loss To Khadi Board

NEW DELHI: Days after conducting surprise checks in Lakshadweep, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said that it has registered two separate cases, including one against the MD of a private company for causing loss to Lakshadweep Khadi and Village Industries Board (LKVIB).

CBI spokesperson RC Joshi in a statement said that the agency has registered two separate cases against the two accused and unknown others on the allegations of causing a huge loss to LKVIB.

The CBI has named Kamarbhanu T, secretary of AHAL Development Society, Kiltan Island, Lakshadweep and unknown public servants and private persons for causing loss to the tune of Rs 53,46,835.

The second case has been filed against TK Ahmed Haji, MD of Rahat Development Society based in Lakshadweep and unknown public servants and private persons for causing loss to the tune of Rs 46,75,206 to LKVIB.

The CBI on June 25 this year along with the vigilance officials of Lakshadweep carried out surprise checks in the office of Lakshadweep Khadi and Village Industries Board (LKVIB).

It was alleged that some influential and other persons in connivance with unknown public servants of LKVIB fraudulently availed loan under Consortium Bank Credit Scheme (CBC) for purchasing fishing vessels and other accessories and did not repay the same, thereby causing a huge loss to the government exchequer.

He said that it was also alleged that the non-remittance of loans by the influential beneficiaries resulted in a situation, where Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Mumbai stopped releasing the funds to LKVIB and thus the development work to be carried out by the Board came to stand still.

The CBI also carried out searches at the residential premises of the accused including at Kavaratti, Lakshadweep and Kerala’s Calicut which led to the recovery of incriminating documents.
