BJP Releases Its First List Of 34 Candidates For Punjab

CHANDIGARH: With barely weeks left until the multi-cornered Punjab assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released the first list of 34 candidates.

In Punjab, BJP has given tickets to 12 candidates belonging to the farming community, 8 tickets to members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community and 13 tickets to Sikhs. BJP National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh shared the details, adding that the BJP is the only party that looks after every single community of the state like an elder brother.

In all, the list has doctors, lawyers, sportspersons, farmers, youth, women and a former IAS officer, Chugh said.

Punjab will go to a single phase poll on February 20. The BJP is fighting the election in alliance with Capt Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress.

Punjab BJP in-charge Dushyant Gautam, who released the list, slammed the ruling Congress government for corruption and bad governance in the state.

Lashing out at chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Gautam said, “It needs to be investigated how Charanjit Singh Channi managed to amass such wealth in just three months. ED is also investigating the matter and raids have been conducted.”

Gautam also criticised the Punjab government for last month’s breach of the prime minister’s security.
