BJP leader, wife found dead in Bihar’s Arrah

Bloodsoaked bodies of a retired professor couple were found by the Police in their residence in Bihar’s Arrah late at night on Monday. 67-year-old Dr. Mahendra Prasad Singh and his 65-year-old wife Pushpa Singh were residents of the Katira neighborhood that falls in the Nawada police station area of Arrah City Police.

However, the motive behind the murder is not clear. “We cannot say for sure. But someone hit them with an object. There are marks and bruises on their body, clear signs of struggle. We are waiting for post-mortem reports,” said Pramod Kumar, Bhojpur SP.

Singh was a BJP leader. He was the state President of BJP’s Yuva Morcha. He had even contested from the Karakat assembly constituency in Rohtas district.

The couple lived by themselves. They have three married daughters. When family members could not contact them over the phone for a day, they suspected foul play. Mahendra Prasad’s elder brother who lives in Jamsedhpur informed the Police that his brother and sister-in-law could not be reached over the phone. “I met them on January 26. Their daughters stay in touch with them regularly. They were worried that my sister-in-law and my brother weren’t taking calls. That’s when my elder brother brought it to the Police’s attention. By the time I came here, the Police had already arrived.” said Heera Singh, younger brother of Mahendra Prasad.

“They had no enemies or any kind of disputes  They were peace-loving and respected people,” he added.

Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar, ASP Himanshu, Nawada police in-charge Suresh Ravidas, town police chief Sanjiv Kumar and DIO in-charge Shambhu Kumar Bhagat have arrived at the scene to investigate the incident. Arrah SP Pramod Kumar has also called a forensic team from Patna. The room where the incident took place has been sealed.
