New Delhi: Delhi BJP spokesperson and MLA Shikha Roy today dismissed Sunita Kejriwal’s remarks on free bus travel for women as “completely false,” asserting that the scheme remains available to all women residents of Delhi without new restrictions.
Roy’s statement came after Sunita Kejriwal, wife of AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, criticized the BJP-led central government during a Teej festival event, alleging that conditions were being imposed on Delhi’s women’s free bus travel and that the promised ₹2,500 monthly assistance had not been delivered.
The BJP leader countered that free bus services in Delhi continue unchanged and accused the AAP leader of spreading misinformation in her “first political speech.” Roy also questioned why the AAP government in Punjab had failed to deliver its promised ₹1,000 monthly honorarium for women despite being in power for over three and a half years.
Additionally, Roy remarked that Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to have his wife preside over the AAP event instead of other senior women leaders like Atishi Marlena or Rakhi Birla reflected dynastic tendencies within the party.
The war of words highlights ongoing tensions between the BJP and AAP over women-centric welfare schemes in Delhi and Punjab. The Delhi government has yet to respond to the BJP’s latest allegations.
