New Delhi: The results of the 2025 Assembly by-elections have been declared, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) each securing victories in different constituencies. The polls were held on June 19 for five seats across Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal.
In Gujarat, the BJP and AAP each won one seat. AAP’s Gopal Italia emerged victorious in Visavadar, while BJP’s Rajendra Chavda triumphed in Kadi. AAP also secured a win in Punjab’s Ludhiana West, reinforcing its presence in the state. Meanwhile, in Kerala, the Congress-led UDF claimed the Nilambur seat.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal celebrated AAP’s performance, stating that the party’s victories in Gujarat and Punjabāwith doubled margins compared to previous electionsāreflect public trust in AAP’s governance. He also criticized the BJP and Congress, accusing them of jointly contesting to defeat AAP but failing to sway voters.
In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is leading in the Kaliganj constituency, as per the latest Election Commission trends.
The bypolls were conducted following the deaths of sitting MLAs in Gujarat, Punjab, and West Bengal, as well as resignations of legislators in Kerala and Gujarat. AAP leaders, including former MLA Somnath Bharti, praised the results as a testament to the growing influence of honest politics under Kejriwal’s leadership.
