Bihar: 2 female constables suspended for thrashing elderly teacher

Two women police constables were suspended for three months on Saturday after a video showing them beating a senior citizen went viral. A 70-year-old private school teacher was allegedly publicly assaulted by the now-suspended female constables on traffic duty in Kaimur district.

In the video clip, an old man, identified as Nawal Kishor Pandey of Barhuli village, was thrashed with a baton in the middle of the road by two female constables. The alleged incident took place at Jay Prakash Chowk in Bhabua on Friday evening.

Narrating the horrific incident, Nawal Kishore said, “I was stopped by the female constables on traffic duty while returning home on my bicycle after duty. They pulled my bicycle to a stop and started beating me alleging that I used expletive language. I told them that it’s not true but they didn’t care.”

He further said that he feels hurt and saddened by what has happened to him. Nawal said, “My reputation has been tarnished by this incident. I demand that the constables be suspended and removed from the services.”

The man has suffered injuries on his hands, legs, and back as a result of the beating.

Following the incident, Kaimur SP Lalit Mohan Sharma said that he took cognisance of the video clip and will look into the matter.

“Prima facie, the act was inhuman and tarnished the image of the police,” Sharma said.

The SP said that a Bhabua sub-divisional police officer was directed to probe the matter and submit a report within 24 hours.

“Stringent action would be taken after getting the report,” Sharma added.

Lately, Bihar Police have come under the spotlight for brutality. The incident comes to light after an incident of Police brutality was reported in Buxar last week, where farmers were agitating for better compensation of their land.
