NEW DELHI: In the age of screen wars and format debates, Panchayat actor Chandan Roy brings a refreshing simplicity to the conversation. Speaking to The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua at Patna’s Digha Ghat, Chandan dismissed the divide between OTT platforms and traditional cinema.
“For me—OTT, film, TV—it’s all the same. I am an actor,” he said, with quiet conviction. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s for OTT or the 70mm screen. Every script is equal. The work remains the same.”
Chandan, who has delivered memorable performances both online and on the big screen, believes true acting transcends platforms. “Honestly, it shouldn’t matter to any actor,” he added. “Whether people watch you on their phone or in a cinema hall, your commitment to the role must be the same.”

He admitted he hadn’t overthought the distinction much, even as his presence grows across formats. “I’ve done quite a few films. And I’ve done some good ones, too. In the future, a few are lined up,” he shared.
In a rapidly evolving entertainment landscape, where actors are often judged by where they’re seen, Chandan Roy stands firm in his belief: it’s not the screen size that defines the performance—it’s the sincerity behind it.
“Big screen or small—I act the same,” he said, reaffirming that the heart of storytelling lies in the craft, not the canvas.
