Bengal Scam: ED In Pursuit Of Arpita’s 4 Luxury Cars

KOLKATA: After recovering over Rs 50 crores in cash & jewellery, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is now in search of four high-end cars belonging to sacked Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee’s aide Arpita Mukherjee.

As per sources in theE D, Audi A4, Honda City, Honda CRV, and Mercedes Benz cars – all registered in the name of Arpita – went “missing” after the agency arrested her in the teacher recruitment scam.

ED sleuths suspect that the missing cars might be stashed with cash and other valuables that could be proceeds of the scam.

Now, ED officials are scanning the CCTV footage of Arpita’s Diamond City residence where the cars were parked before her arrest on July 23.

Apart from huge stashes of cash, gold & diamond jewellery, and more than 20 expensive smartphones, the agency has recovered only one Mercedes car during the course of the investigation.

Reacting to the new revelation, former West Bengal BJP president and MP Dilip Ghosh said the ED should have been more careful.

On July 22, the agency launched a search at Arpita’s flat in Kolkata’s Tollygunge and recovered Rs 21 crores in cash. Six days later, it recovered another Rs 21 crore from her residence in Belghoria, Kolkata.

Partha was arrested on July 28 after more than 20 hours of interrogation. He was sacked from the Mamata Banerjee Cabinet and from all posts of the Trinamool Congress on Thursday.
