BC Place to Host Inaugural Canada Super 60 Cricket Tournament

Summary

Vancouver’s BC Place will host the inaugural Canada Super 60, a 10-over-a-side cricket league with men’s and women’s tournaments. The event marks a significant step for Canadian cricket, aiming to expand the sport and attract new fans ahead of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

NEW DELHI: Cricket in Canada reached a major milestone on Friday with the announcement that Vancouver’s BC Place will host the inaugural Canada Super 60 — a first‑of‑its‑kind 10‑over‑a‑side cricket league featuring both men’s and women’s tournaments from day one.

Iconic Venue for a Historic Launch

BC Place, situated in downtown Vancouver, is one of Canada’s most recognisable sports landmarks. Over the past four decades, it has staged marquee events including the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games opening and closing ceremonies, and ten Grey Cup championships.

With its retractable roof, world‑class amenities, and versatility for multiple sports, BC Place will become the first indoor stadium in the world to host a 10‑over‑a‑side cricket tournament.

Yuvraj Singh: “A Theatre of Dreams”

Global cricket icon and Canada Super 60 strategic partner Yuvraj Singh described the venue as inspirational for players.

“BC Place is not just a stadium; it’s a theatre of dreams. The grandeur of where you play inspires players deeply. For our men and women, there could not be a better place to begin this journey. Vancouver’s diversity, culture and love for sport will ignite a whole new cricket fan base on the West Coast.”

Cricket Canada’s Vision for Growth

Cricket Canada president Amjad Bajwa called the move a bold step forward for the sport in the country.

“We are proud to introduce BC Place to world cricket. This partnership reflects our commitment to expanding the game nationwide and creating world‑class opportunities for our players — especially ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.”

BC Place Welcomes Cricket

BC Place general manager Chris May said the venue is ready to showcase one of the world’s most‑watched sports to a new audience.

“We are beyond excited to welcome cricket to BC Place. Hosting the Canada Super 60 is a tremendous opportunity to bring dynamic events that reflect British Columbia’s diversity. It’s a step towards a more inclusive and representative sports landscape.”

A First for Men’s and Women’s Cricket

The Canada Super 60 will be the first global‑format league to feature both men’s and women’s competitions from inception. Designed to blend the excitement of T20s with a faster, high‑impact format, the league aims to attract new audiences and inspire the next generation of Canadian cricketers.

Tournament dates and ticketing details will be released in the coming weeks.

Launched in 2025 and backed by Cricket Canada, the Canada Super 60 is a 10‑over‑a‑side cricket league featuring simultaneous men’s and women’s tournaments. The league aims to raise Canada’s profile in world cricket while offering fans thrilling, fast‑paced matches.

BC Place is owned and operated by BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), a Provincial Crown Corporation under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture & Sport. Along with the Vancouver Convention Centre, BC Place is part of PavCo’s portfolio of world‑class venues and has hosted some of Canada’s most significant sporting and cultural events.
