Assam CM accuses Congress of ‘soft naxalism’, Rahul’s ‘body double’

Rahul Gandhi duplicate part of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, says CM Himanta

NEW DELHI: Amid an ongoing spat between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, Sarma escalated the confrontation, accusing the Congress party of adopting “Soft Naxalism” and veering away from Gandhian principles.

In a press conference on Thursday, Sarma, who was with the Congress for 22 years, lamented the shift in the party’s ideology, stating, “Congress politics has become ‘Soft Naxalite.’ Their slogans don’t reflect Gandhian principles anymore. I too was in Congress for 22 years. But it never had such slogans earlier. Congress had a soft slogan. I see that they have killed even the soul of Congress.”

The controversy between Sarma and Rahul Gandhi intensified during the yatra, with Sarma filing an FIR against Gandhi for alleged instigation of violence, claiming that Gandhi would be arrested after the Lok Sabha election. The case has been transferred to the Assam CID for investigation.

Sarma added fuel to the fire by quoting a media report alleging the use of a body double for Rahul Gandhi during the yatra.

“Aaapke samne jo Rahul Gandhi dikhayi dete hai wo Rahul nahi hote, Rahul ander me 8 logo ke kamre me baithta hai, bahar mein he uses a body-double (The Rahul Gandhi you see in front of you is not the real Rahul. Inside, Rahul sits in a room with eight people, while outside, he uses a body double),” said Himanta, talking to the media.

He accused Gandhi of planning a communal clash in Assam, stating, “What was this Yatra? Look at its timing. They had hatched a conspiracy to instigate a major communal clash in Assam.” Sarma claimed that the people of Assam and Ram Bhakts restrained themselves, preventing any untoward incidents.

Challenging Gandhi, Sarma asserted, “People of Assam will see you in Lok Sabha for your arrogance. I give you this commitment today – Congress will get an even lesser number of seats in Assam, and we will defeat them with a good margin.”

The allegations and counter-allegations between the Chief Minister and the Congress MP have intensified, bringing to the forefront the ideological differences and political tensions surrounding the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
