New Delhi: In a heated debate in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav engaged in a sharp exchange over the recent anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah was addressing the House regarding “Operation Mahadev,” in which three terrorists were neutralized by a joint operation of the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Shah identified the slain terrorists as Suleman, Afghan, and Jibran, all associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. He described Suleman as an “A-category” commander involved in the Pahalgam and Ganganagar terror attacks, while Afghan and Jibran were also high-ranking operatives. Shah emphasized that security agencies had substantial evidence against them.
During his speech, Akhilesh Yadav interjected, asking, “Have you spoken to Pakistan?” Shah responded by urging Yadav to listen patiently, saying, “I expected the opposition to be happy about the elimination of terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack, but it seems they are not pleased… What kind of politics is this? Aren’t you happy that terrorists have been killed? Akhilesh ji, please sit down, I will answer every question. Don’t be saddened by the religion of the terrorists.”
The remarks sparked a spirited back-and-forth, with Shah accusing the opposition of politicizing counter-terrorism efforts, while Yadav questioned the government’s approach. The debate highlighted the ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition over national security issues.
