Delhi Police, who are investigating the cyber attack on the server of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), have approached the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to get the details of the alleged Chinese hackers through Interpol. The CBI is the nodal agency to contact Interpol.
Delhi Police have sought details about the hackers, suspected to be from Henan, China and Hong Kong. The police have requested that the CBI approach Interpol to provide the IP addresses of the email ids through which the attacks were launched.
“Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) of the Delhi Police Cyber Unit has written a letter to the CBI,” confirmed a senior police officer.
Last month, alleged hackers from China hacked the server of AIIMS, the premier medical institute in the country, stalling the data and personal details of the patients. Due to the hacking, the digital services remained stalled for several days.
On November 25, Delhi Police’s IFSO unit registered a case under sections of extortion and cyber terrorism against unknown persons. During investigations, the police found conclusive evidence suggesting the role of hackers based in China.
The official from the Health ministry also said that of 100 servers (40 physical and 60 virtual), five physical servers were successfully infiltrated by the hackers. However, later, the data on the five servers was successfully retrieved.
During the hacking, users faced problems logging in, booking appointments, registering at outpatient departments (OPD), billing at inpatient departments (IPD), laboratory report generation and using smart lab.
During that period, all hospital services, including outpatient, inpatient, laboratories, etc., continued to run in manual mode.
