NEW DELHI: A before its crucial three-day Chintan Shivir, the Congress on Thursday said it will introspect and review “organisational dexterity and capability” in order to propel India onto the path of progress, prosperity and societal harmony once again.

Speaking to media persons here, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that India is enduring a painful and vicious assault on its democracy, economy and societal harmony.

He said India expects Congress to review its organizational dexterity, capacity, capability, but also to adapt itself to the current situation and challenges. “This is the essence of nav sankalp chintan shivir,” the Congress leader added.

As many as 430 invitees will discuss and deliberate various facets and challenges facing the Congress over a period of three days between May 13 and May 15 in Rajasthan’s Udaipur in order to lay down a road map.

“The road map shall provide a way forward not only to the Congress Party to meet up with the current set of reverses and challenges, but will also pave the way for a resilient, strong and inclusive nation,” Surjewala said.

He said that the Grand Old Party was born out of a determined struggle to liberate India and its people from the shackles of oppression, discrimination, bigotry and the policy of divide and rule.
During the brainstorming session, the Congress will introspect, contemplate and reflect upon the way forward and new milestones to be traversed in the “Nav-Sankalp Chintan Shivir”.

Surjewala came down heavily on the Central government on slump in the value of Indian Rupee as compared to USD.

“The free fall of the Indian economy has resulted in the Indian Rupee falling to an abysmal level of USD 1 to Rs 77.50. On the other hand, India’s debt has shockingly risen from Rs 55 lakh crore in the year 2014 to Rs 135 lakh crore in the year 2022,” he rued.

“The Modi government takes a debt of Rs 4,000 crore daily. Every Indian has a debt of Rs 100000 on his or her head,” he further said.

He also slammed the government over rising inflation, unemployment rate, and the “failure” to push back China from Indian territory along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

He accused the Centre of promoting toxic religious divisions and bigotry to target India’s minorities, particularly the Muslims, Christians and the Sikhs. “It uses this terminal politics in its quest for electoral victory,” Surjewala alleged.

“BJP sponsored issues are shamsan/kabristan, bulldozer, loudspeaker, mandir vs masjid vs church vs gurudwara, changing names of roads & monuments, creating division on the basis of clothing and food habits etc,” he alleged.

He said that as India is plagued by the painful lines of division and hatred, it is obligatory on the Congress to defend the ethos of the nation and find lasting solutions for peaceful co-existence.
