New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing to disburse salaries on time to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees and not transferring promised funds to the civic body.
Ankush Narang, AAP’s Leader of Opposition in the MCD, claimed that despite assurances from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta about the release of ₹820 crore to the MCD, the funds have not been credited to the civic body’s account. “Last week, the BJP announced that ₹820 crore had been cleared, but till now, not a single rupee has reached the MCD,” Narang said at a press conference.
He highlighted that under the previous AAP administration, MCD employees received their salaries on the first of every month, ending years of delays that sometimes stretched up to six months during the BJP’s earlier 15-year rule. However, since the BJP regained control of the MCD two months ago, salaries for sanitation workers have been delayed by 10–12 days, while Group A, B, and C employees are yet to receive last month’s wages, Narang alleged.
Narang also pointed out that retirement benefits, including gratuity and provident fund dues worth ₹100 crore for 60 recently retired employees, remain unpaid. “BJP organized a grand farewell event, but the retired staff say they received empty envelopes,” he claimed.
The AAP leader criticized the BJP’s governance, stating that despite having control over the Centre, Delhi government, MCD, and the Lieutenant Governor’s office, the party has failed to address long-standing issues such as pending pensions, delayed promotions, and lack of medical benefits for employees.
Responding to the allegations, BJP representatives maintained that the funds for MCD are being processed and will be released soon. They accused AAP of politicizing administrative delays and assured that all pending salaries and dues would be cleared promptly.
The dispute comes amid growing concerns over MCD’s financial management and service delivery, with sanitation workers and other employees expressing frustration over payment delays. The AAP has demanded immediate release of the ₹820 crore to ensure timely salary disbursement, as was practiced during its tenure.
The BJP-led MCD administration has yet to issue an official statement on the salary delays and fund transfer allegations.
