New Delhi: In a rare and candid reflection, Bollywood icon Aamir Khan described RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as “a very intelligent man” and said he has genuinely enjoyed their interactions. Speaking to The New Indian’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, Aamir recalled meeting Bhagwat during a public event in 2017 and described the encounter as respectful and memorable.

“Yes, yes. I did have a conversation with Mohan ji… It was very nice meeting him. I’ve met him once or twice, and I really liked him. He’s a very intelligent man,” Aamir said during the exclusive interview.

The meeting took place at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Award ceremony, where Aamir was photographed sharing a warm moment with Bhagwat — including a hug and a gesture of touching his feet. The photo, which had gone viral at the time, had sparked widespread commentary given Aamir’s otherwise apolitical and low-key public persona.

Despite ongoing media narratives that try to box celebrities into ideological silos, Aamir’s words reflect a personal engagement that goes beyond labels.

“I really liked him,” Aamir reiterated when asked about his impression of the RSS supremo.

The remarks come at a time when cultural and ideological divisions dominate much of public discourse. Aamir Khan’s appreciation for Bhagwat, delivered without fanfare or provocation, highlights his characteristic refusal to conform to predictable political binaries.

The actor also acknowledged the importance of recognising those whose contributions lie outside the limelight — a subtle nod to the understated nature of the event and the people involved.

As India prepares to mark 100 years of Haridas, a spiritual and cultural movement supported by the Mangeshkar family and linked to the event where the two men met, Aamir’s comments offer a rare insight into the quiet respect shared across unexpected ideological lines.
