SRINAGAR: In a successful counter-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Machil sector, police and army forces have neutralised five Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists.

The encounter began in the Machil sector of Kupwara District, with two terrorists eliminated in the initial exchange of fire. Subsequently, three more terrorists were shot down in the ensuing gunfight, as reported by the police.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have increasingly been involved in counter-infiltration operations, which were traditionally carried out exclusively by the army.

Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, disclosed that 16 terrorist launchpads remain active along the LoC, and there are ongoing attempts to infiltrate terrorists from Pakistan.

Official statistics show that out of the 46 terrorists killed in the Union Territory this year, 37 were of Pakistani origin, with only nine being locals. This marks the first time in the 33-year history of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir that the number of foreign terrorists eliminated is four times higher than that of local terrorists.

The Ministry of Home Affairs reports that approximately 130 terrorists are currently operating in the Valley, with half of them being foreign terrorists.
