NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government launched a new anti-pollution ‘Green War Room’ on Tuesday to monitor and implement the ‘Winter Action Plan’ on a 24/7 basis as winter approaches the national capital.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the Green War Room will have a team of 17 members, including environmental scientist Dr. Nandita Moitra, who has been appointed as the in-charge.

Rai also highlighted the government’s efforts to reduce pollution in the capital city, stating that PM10 and PM2.5 levels have fallen by 30% in the last eight years despite an increasing population.

He informed that 70,684 complaints were received on the Green Delhi App, of which 90% have been resolved to date. He added that most of the complaints are registered against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Rai also announced the launch of an ‘Anti-Dust’ campaign in Delhi from October 5. He urged the public to cooperate in the fight against pollution by downloading the Green Delhi App and reporting instances of dust pollution.

“Strict action will be taken against construction sites that do not comply with dust pollution-related regulations,” he said.

Rai also stated that the Centre for Science and Environment has analyzed the sources of pollution in Delhi and found that internal sources account for 31% of pollution, while external sources from surrounding states contribute 69%. This is why the Green War Room has been asked to be on its toes, he said.
