J&K: More Than 100 Golfers Compete In Diwali Cup

A total of 108 golfers took part in the day-long Diwali Cup organised by Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu.

A total of 108 golfers took part in the day-long Diwali Cup organised by Jammu Tawi Golf Course (JTGC) in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu.

On Sunday, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar teed off the tournament along with JTGC secretary Manav Gupta.

ADGP Garib Das and Alok Kumar, Director of Fire and Emergency Services and many others from across the state took part in the tournament, which was divided into 27 four-balls, including four four-balls for senior citizens.

Pawan Parihar (General Category), Col. Vijay Kumar Mahajan (Senior Category) and Master Arinn (Kids Category) were adjudged as the overall winners in their respective categories.

Rohit Bhalla (General Category), Hemant Kumar Sharma (Senior Category) and Master Dhanin Khan (Kids Category) were declared as runners-up in their respective categories.

Moreover, VP Singh bagged the award for the straight drive (3 feet, 5 inches), the longest drive award went to Col JS Ranhawa (274 metres) and the closest to the pin at hole no. 2 went to Shahid Parvez (6 feet, 3 inches).

Congratulating the winners, Bhatnagar stressed the need to inculcate a golfing culture among the younger generation. Appreciating the management of JTGC for successfully conducting the event, he said that such tournaments should be organised on a regular basis.

Later on, Bhatnagar, along with the principal secretary of the higher education department, Rohit Kansal, distributed trophies and mementos to the winners, runner-ups, and other players, who were adjudged best in different categories.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta thanked all the golfers for participating in the tournament with great enthusiasm and zeal.

Located in the plains on the banks of the River Tawi, the picturesque 18-hole Jammu Tawi Golf Course hosted the J&K Open 2022 last month. Chandigarh’s Yuvraj Singh Sandhu won the tournament with a resounding seven-shot win.
