Bomb Threat Reported On Iranian Flight, IAF Scrambles Jets

The Indian Air Force scrambled its fighter jets to intercept an Iranian passenger aircraft destined to China after a bomb threat when it was flying over the Indian airspace on Monday.

The fighter aircraft followed the Iranian flight at a safe distance and offered the pilot to land – first at Jaipur and later at Chandigarh airport, the IAF said in a statement.

“However, the pilot declared his unwillingness to divert to either of the two airports,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the government of India received communication from Tehran that the bomb scare was false. Following which, the aircraft continued on its journey towards its final destination.

“All actions were taken by IAF as per the laid down procedure, jointly with Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS),” the IAF informed.

The aircraft was under close radar surveillance by the Air Force throughout the Indian airspace, it concluded.
