NEW DELHI: The Union government on Monday said that it does not interfere with the functioning of the law enforcement agencies.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) late on Sunday night arrested Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut in the Patra Chawl land scam case. The incident led the opposition to raise the issue of misuse of central agencies by the Union government.

“Government might have interfered with the functioning of the law enforcement agencies when opposition parties were at the centre, but we don’t interfere with the functioning of the agencies,” Union minister Piyush Goyal told The New Indian on Monday. “Law will take its own course,” he added.

As reported by The New Indian, Raut skipped multiple summons before he was arrested by the ED.

Amravati MP Navneet Rana told The New Indian that rather than answering ED Sanjay Raut was making excuses on one pretext or another.

“If you (Sanjay Raut) are so neat and clean, why could you not answer? Why does ED have to take such a big action against you? Because, you have done corruption,” Rana said.
