NEW DELHI: Amazon has announced a major commitment to support India’s digital transformation by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to empower millions of small businesses, students, and consumers.

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s national AI Mission, aiming to expand access, literacy, and innovation across the country.

In a post shared on X on Friday, Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s Global SVP & Country Head – India, said AI has the potential to transform India not only technologically, but also socially by breaking barriers of language, literacy, and access.

Agarwal revealed that Amazon plans to enable over 15 million small businesses and provide AI literacy to 4 million government-school students by 2030. The effort will focus on equipping entrepreneurs and young learners with essential digital tools to participate in the growing AI-driven economy.

“Our long term goal is aligned with the Government of India’s AI Mission and we are aiming to bring the power of AI to millions of small businesses, customers and students,” Agarwal wrote.
“For us, this is about more than innovation, it’s about ensuring every Indian can benefit from this transformative technology.”

Amazon has also committed $12.7 billion in investments in cloud and AI infrastructure through Amazon Web Services (AWS), aimed at accelerating digital public infrastructure and supporting Indian enterprises.

Focus on Inclusive Growth

Agarwal emphasized that Amazon’s vision is centered around democratizing technology, ensuring AI reaches remote and underserved communities, and helping MSMEs scale globally.

The announcement follows India’s push for large-scale AI adoption under initiatives such as Digital India, the AI Mission, and efforts to build public AI platforms for education, agriculture, and healthcare.
