New Delhi: India wrapped up a commanding 2-0 series victory over the West Indies, chasing down 121 on the final day at the Feroz Shah Kotla with seven wickets in hand.
The win marked Shubman Gill’s first series triumph as Test captain and extended India’s winning streak over West Indies to ten Tests.
India declared their first innings at 518 for 5 after dominant performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal (175), Shubman Gill (129) and B Sai Sudharsan (87), before bowling out West Indies for 248 and enforcing the follow-on. Kuldeep Yadav starred with the ball, taking 5 for 82 in the first innings and finishing with 12 wickets in the series.
The visitors showed more resistance in their second outing, led by John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103), while Chris Greaves (50)* added late runs to take them to 390. However, Jasprit Bumrah (3/44) and Kuldeep (3/104) ensured India were left chasing a manageable total.
Chasing 121 for victory, India lost Sai Sudharsan and Gill early on the final morning but KL Rahul steadied the innings with a composed 58 not out, guiding the team home in a little over an hour. His innings, laced with two sixes, capped a consistent series where he tallied 192 runs, second only to Jaiswal’s 219.
The win consolidated India’s position at No. 3 on the World Test Championship table with 61.9% points, while also marking their 122nd Test victory, moving them past South Africa into third place overall.
