NEW DELHI: The Punjab Government’s Mission Chardi Kala has emerged as a powerful symbol of social responsibility, uniting every section of society in a shared spirit of service.

From industrialists and film stars to athletes and the Punjabi diaspora, contributions are pouring in, reflecting a renewed trust in the state’s transparent and accountable system.

Industrialists Lead by Example

Renowned industrialist and philanthropist Dr. Vikramjit Sahney has set a remarkable precedent by donating ₹1 crore, along with 1,000 disinfection machines and relief materials.

Known for his global philanthropic efforts—including scholarships for underprivileged students, women’s self-employment programs, and oxygen concentrators during the Covid crisis—Sahney said his latest contribution is proof that technology and resources, when rightly used, can shape Punjab’s future.

Another significant contribution came from industrialist Rakesh Bhatia, who donated ₹10 crore. Having earlier supported farmers with cold storage facilities and hi-tech mandi systems, Bhatia described his donation as part of his social duty to Punjab’s recovery.

Film and Sports Personalities Step Forward

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who became a household name during the Covid pandemic for his humanitarian work, pledged ₹5 crore to the campaign. Through his foundation, he also announced new skill training and employment drives for youth in affected areas.

Popular Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa donated ₹1 crore, saying Punjab gave her recognition and she was proud to give back to her roots. Bajwa has previously supported girls’ education and rural schools.

Sports icons Sandeep Singh and Harbhajan Singh jointly contributed ₹2 crore, promising to provide free sports training and scholarships for children through academies set up in collaboration with the government. Officials hailed the gesture as an inspiring display of Punjabi spirit and sportsmanship.

Punjabi Diaspora Gives a Global Dimension

Overseas Punjabis from Canada and the UK have strengthened the initiative with donations of nearly ₹50 crore. Diaspora organizations, long active in rebuilding Punjab’s schools, hospitals, and villages, have made Mission Chardi Kala a campaign of global solidarity.

Women in Administration: A Strong Pillar

Amritsar’s first woman Deputy Commissioner, Sakshi Sawhney, has won appreciation for her dedicated efforts in overseeing relief distribution and women’s self-help group programs. Earlier praised for her work during Covid management, Sawhney has become a symbol of Punjab’s administrative resilience under this mission.

Transparency Builds Trust

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized that with the government’s digital tracking system, every rupee is being accounted for before the public. This transparency, he said, has transformed Mission Chardi Kala from a government program into a people’s movement, powered by collective goodwill.

A Movement Beyond a Scheme

From industrialists and artists to athletes, diaspora communities, and administrative officers, Mission Chardi Kala has transcended its identity as a government scheme. It now represents Punjab’s eternal spirit of resilience and unity—Chardi Kala—where every contribution strengthens society and every effort reflects the state’s shared progress.
