NEW DELHI: Punjab has scripted a new chapter in public welfare by turning technology into its strongest weapon. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state has become the first in India to launch Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based devices for the detection of breast cancer, cervical cancer, and eye disorders.

The historic program was formally inaugurated at the Chandigarh Municipal building by Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who said that while cancer remains one of the deadliest diseases, AI-powered early detection will give society a new shield of protection. The government has set an ambitious target of 600 eye screenings and 300 breast and cervical cancer screenings daily.

A Step Towards Safer Healthcare

The Health Minister stressed that this initiative will especially safeguard women’s health and strengthen society as a whole. “Early detection is the strongest weapon against fatal diseases,” he said.

AI for Public Good

This is not Punjab’s first experiment with AI in governance. Earlier, the Mann Government conducted an AI and videography-based survey of 3,369 roads, which revealed that 843 roads were already in good condition. The exercise saved the exchequer ₹383 crore, preventing wastage on fake repairs and redirecting funds to welfare projects.

Similarly, a ₹252 crore overhaul in jails has introduced 5G jammers, AI cameras, and live monitoring systems. In policing, taxation, and even driving license tests, AI has replaced middlemen with automated systems like HAMS technology, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Transforming Education and Agriculture

The government is also pushing AI into classrooms, training 10,000 teachers in artificial intelligence so they can guide lakhs of students at the school level. The vision is to turn Punjab’s youth from job seekers into job creators.

At Punjab Agricultural University, AI-based courses are being introduced to help farmers adapt to modern technology. The government has also started a mission to integrate the Punjabi language with AI, giving the mother tongue global recognition while creating digital opportunities for local youth.

A Shift in Governance Thinking

This transformation reflects a larger shift in governance philosophy. Development in Punjab is no longer limited to roads and buildings but now includes technology that improves everyday life.

With a focus on honesty, transparency, and efficiency, the Mann Government has shown that clean intent and people-first decisions can protect public money and secure the future.

The New Face of Punjab

Punjab is moving towards an identity defined not by scams but by progress, technology, and accountability. From healthcare to education, policing to agriculture, AI is reshaping governance and making it truly citizen-centric.

“This is the Punjab of the future—where decisions are visible on the ground, not just on paper,” officials said.
