NEW DELHI: As the worlds of entertainment and sustainability intersect, a unique conversation will unfold at the 9th NYC Green School Conference 2025.

On September 24, the session “A Foot in the Door – Sustainable Careers in Entertainment” will spotlight how the film and media industries are integrating climate action into both production and storytelling.

The panel will feature leaders including Heidi Kindberg (Warner Bros. Discovery), Harry Winer (NYU Tisch), Raef Tanner (Amazon MGM Productions), Rohan Dua, Executive Editor & Director of The New Indian, and Virendra Rawat, founder of Green Mentors.

Dua’s participation brings an Indian media voice to a global stage, reflecting the growing recognition of South Asia’s role in shaping sustainability narratives, while Rawat highlights the importance of mentoring young creatives toward environmentally conscious careers.

The discussion will explore how climate-conscious filmmaking—covering carbon tracking, waste diversion, and green set design—is opening new career pathways for students and young professionals. At the same time, panelists will highlight how storytelling itself can act as a climate solution. By embedding themes of conservation, resilience, and ecological responsibility into mainstream content, media creators can influence millions of viewers and spark global conversations.

Rohan Dua is expected to emphasize the power of journalism and cinema working in tandem, especially in regions where climate impacts are most visible. Rawat will share his expertise in mentoring and guiding emerging talent to align careers with sustainability goals. Together, their perspectives underscore how South Asian media and mentorship initiatives can bridge local stories with global audiences, mobilizing both awareness and action.

The session, co-hosted with the Green Film School Alliance, promises to be one of the most dynamic of the conference—showcasing not just the challenges but also the opportunities for creatives to align careers with climate-conscious values.

As world leaders deliberate climate policy at UNGA, this dialogue will remind participants that the cultural industries—film, media, and storytelling—are equally critical arenas for shaping a sustainable future.
