NEW DELHI: Reinforcing its commitment to public welfare, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has expanded and modernized its ambulance services, making them a lifeline for patients across the state.
In July 2024, CM Mann flagged off 58 high-tech, GPS-equipped ambulances, followed by another 46 ambulances in June 2025. With these additions, Punjab now operates a total of 371 government ambulances—ensuring availability in every district and town.
The state has also introduced a strict response protocol: ambulances must reach patients within 15 minutes in cities and 20 minutes in rural areas. Between January and July 2024 alone, these ambulances transported over 1 lakh patients to hospitals, including 10,737 cardiac patients and 28,540 expectant mothers. Remarkably, 80 babies were delivered safely inside ambulances during this period.
Innovation During Flood Crisis
The government’s foresight was particularly evident during the recent floods. With roads and villages submerged, the administration converted boats, tractors, and makeshift floats into “boat ambulances.” These improvised services carried medicines to remote villages and evacuated patients to hospitals. Even under such extreme conditions, four babies were born safely inside these emergency ambulances.
Healthcare as Priority
Backed by the 108 emergency helpline and the state’s Road Safety Force, Punjab’s ambulance system has become one of the most responsive in the country.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized:
“Our government’s only goal is to protect the life of every Punjabi. Whether it’s a road accident, a heart attack, or a natural disaster like a flood, Punjab’s ambulance service stands with the people at every step.”
A Safety Net for Every Citizen
From city hospitals to flood-affected villages, Punjab’s ambulance service has reassured citizens that they are never alone in an emergency. By combining technology, strict response times, and innovative crisis management, the Mann government has ensured that life-saving care is always within reach.
