NEW DELHI: An FIR has been registered against a 43-year-old man in connection with a dog bite incident that occurred on the night of July 17 in the PMGP MHADA Colony, Mankhurd (East), Mumbai.
According to police reports, the incident took place at around 10:00 PM in front of Building No. 91A. The victim, a minor boy, was playing inside a parked rickshaw near his residence when a pet dog, reportedly owned by Mohammad Sohail Hasan Khan, attacked and bit the child on the chin.
The complainant, the victim’s parent, alleged that the accused — a local air-conditioning repair technician and known acquaintance from the same neighborhood — intentionally released his brown-colored dog without proper restraint or supervision. The lack of control is believed to have directly contributed to the child being bitten.
The case was registered at Mankhurd Police Station in the early hours of July 18 at 03:28 AM under C.R. No. 392/2025. The police have booked the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 291 (Negligent conduct with respect to animals), 125, and 125(a), which pertain to acts endangering the safety and well-being of others, especially minors.
As part of the procedure, a notice has been served to Mohammad Sohail Khan under Section 35(3) of BNS, which typically requires the accused to appear before investigating authorities and cooperate with the inquiry.
The child received medical attention and is currently recovering from the injury. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused’s actions were deliberate and to evaluate the history of the dog’s behavior.
Residents of the colony expressed concern over the safety of children in the area, calling for stricter enforcement of pet ownership laws and responsible handling of domestic animals in shared community spaces.
